Start Small, Stay Clear: The One Basket Rule
The One Basket Rule
Hey Love Nest members,
Let’s talk about that feeling when every room in your home feels like it’s yelling at you. Shoes over here, mail over there, random things with no home just vibing on your countertops, I’ve been there!
That’s why I want to share one of my favorite quick and easy tips today to reset your space without overwhelming yourself.
The One Basket Rule
Here’s the deal: You’ve to limit yourself to one “catch-all” basket per room. Not two. Not a pile. Just one. That basket is your controlled chaos zone — where miscellaneous items land before they’re sorted. Think: mail, hair ties, that one random battery you always say you’ll find a spot for.
Once the basket is full, that’s your cue. You take a couple of minutes to put things where they belong. Simple. Easy. Done.
This trick works because it teaches you to contain clutter instead of letting it take over you! It gives you a visual boundary. And girl, boundaries are healthy in relationships and even in organizing.
I know minimalism sounds like a big lifestyle change — but really, it starts with one small choice. This one rule can shift your whole mindset. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about creating calm corners in your day. And that ONE basket? It’s your first boundary between you and chaos.
Start in one room — the kitchen, your bedroom, closets, home office, the hallway — and try it. Trust me. It will help you get started.
You’ll start to notice the difference in how you move through your space. And little by little… your home tasks will feel easier, and not like your to-do list.
Why This Works So Well:
It keeps surfaces clear (hello, peaceful countertops).
It sets a natural limit so you don’t hoard tiny junk.
It makes it obvious when it’s time to tidy up. (full basket!)
It’s low-effort, beneficial for busy families or anyone in transition (move-ins, new baby, you name it).
If this tip helped you or you try it this weekend, I wanna hear from you! 💬 Comment or DM me and tell me what space you started in.
I love hearing your wins, big or small!
Next week, I’ll show you how I use clear bins to create structure and save money. Plus — I’ll be putting you on to one of my absolute favorite OXO products that’s a must-have in any organized space.
Until then —
” Love your space, and your space will love you back.”
